In his first year of practice, Phillip attended Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in Wyoming for three weeks where he learned the tools to communicate his client’s story in a way that connects with a jury. That same year, Phillip also graduated from the Tim Evans Texas Criminal Trial College, where he learned essential procedural and evidentiary skills for the courtroom.
As of March 2019, Phillip has tried over 60 jury trials, including Intoxication Manslaughter, Online Solicitation of a Minor, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Assault on a Public Servant, Driving While Intoxicated, Assault Bodily Injury to a Family Member, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Many of these verdicts resulted with a jury returning a verdict of Not Guilty. Phillip has also tried numerous civil cases ranging from car accidents, to denial of insurance claims, resulting in a jury rewarding thousands of dollars in damages.
Since the inception of his career, Phillip has welcomed any opportunity to fight for justice and make sure the voiceless are heard. Today, Phillip continues to grow his advocacy skills by attending legal seminars and attending monthly workgroups with colleagues and graduates of the Trial Lawyers College. Phillip has since been back to Wyoming for the Trial Lawyers College Graduate 2 Course, and is always searching for creative and innovative ways to get his clients the best possible results.
Phillip has been named “Top Attorney” in Criminal Defense by Fort Worth Magazine every year he’s been licensed (2015 - present). He has also been named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers (a Thompson Reuters Service) in 2018 and 2019, an honor awarded to only the top 2.5% of lawyers in Texas.
Phillip is an active member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, Tarrant County Bar Association, and Texas Bar College. Phillip is fluent in Spanish and is currently licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and the Federal Northern District of Texas.
