Nothing Is Impossible by Jay Goodman
I have often wondered what has to happen in someone’s life for them to see that anything can be accomplished. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine yesterday about something that I believe could be done. Why even I can admit what I was talking to him about seems like it would be virtually impossible. But I am also smart enough to understand that history has proven to the world that nothing is impossible. Talking with my friend made me realize how two different people’s opinion cannot only be so different, but made me understand why certain men go out in life, and accomplish great things, while others spend their lives, believing it can’t be done. Some men will take something that will seem impossible and think about it until they find a way to make it possible. While others will look at something that they believe is impossible and just expected. It made me think of something I read in a book once. The article was about human thinking. The woman said, “everyone should never use the word can’t. Because when we say, I can’t, we closed down the human thought process. We should always ask ourselves. How can I do this? Because now by asking yourself, this question, you have open the part of your brain that makes us think, which, in turn, allows us to accomplish anything we set our mine, too.? When I read this, it made perfect sense to me, because I sat back, and really thought about history, and all that man has created and accomplished.
I can easily see that the only thing that separates the people who do great things in life from the ones who don’t, is there thinking. Some believe it can’t be done, while others know it can.
As I was talking to my friend, about why I believe what I was telling him was impossible, he spent the entire time telling me it wasn’t. Not once did he even try to imagine, or consider the possibility of what we were talking about.
When I told him a couple of times, that what I was explaining to him will take years of planning, he still kept persisting. It was impossible. Not many people have a tendency in life to only see what their imagination allows them to see, or believes is possible. I am a true believer in whatever man puts his mind to he can do. If we only went back 100 years in time and looked at what happened, it should be proof enough to see that anything is possible.
Let’s take a look at Henry Ford, he said, “there will come a day when the car will replace the horse.? People ridiculed him and laughed at his statement. But he never let it change his dream. In fact, he would tell the people making fun of him, this, “whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, either way, you’re right.?
Needless to say, this man, with a sixth-grade education went on to revolutionize the transportation industry.
And yes, the car did replace the horse. Now let’s say we were sitting around a bar having a drink 100 years ago. And someone said, I am going to build a plane and it will fly 10,000 feet in the air, and what took us five hours to drive to another state, we can fly there in an hour. And when I’m done with that, “I’m going to build this thing called the jet, it will hold hundreds of people and can fly anywhere in the world in less than 24 hours.?
The people this man was talking to I’m sure would I thought this man had lost his mind. But the Wright brothers did build a plane, and yes, we can fly anywhere in the world in less than 24 hours. Now, I imagine the man who said, “I am building this rocket, and this will enable man to fly into outer space, and take a trip to the moon.? Many people believe this was impossible. But I can remember sitting at home as a little boy, watching the first man walk on the moon. Let’s take a look at everything Albert Einstein did, this man was born dirt poor in the 1800s, and died in the 1950s. But nothing stopped this man from revolutionizing the world when he separated the atom. Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times before he created electric light. Another man born in the 1800s dirt poor whose contribution to mankind is still being used in the 21st-century. Both Einstein and Edison were hundreds of years before their time. They didn’t have the ask us to modern day education or information as people do today.
Everything these two men did, was created from their mind. Think about that for a moment. These two men never had a map or a blueprint for their hundreds of creations, they visualize what they wanted to do, they never stopped until they created it. Just these two men alone should be proof enough that anything is possible. I have wondered why people seem to forget everything these two men did in their lifetime. Not just these two men, but for all of our accomplishments over the last hundred years? Just a little over 100 years ago, we were still riding around on a horse. One would imagine in modern day times with everything that’s been created. An accomplished by mankind, it would be easy for everyone to understand that nothing is impossible.
We have created and done the unbelievable through history. Everything we see, and everything we use was created by man. There is absolutely no limitations on our abilities to create or accomplish anything we put our mind to. The only limitations each man has is what he allows himself to believe, or not to believe. I am a firm believer that this statement is the only thing that separates the men and women from great accomplishments, from the ones who walk through life doing nothing. It is all in what we allow ourselves to believe. Do you believe you can’t or do you believe you can? Do you believe it’s impossible or impossible? I know one thing is a fact, you will get whatever you believe. I remember when I was flying down to South Mexico when I was in my 20’s. The place I was going, had built a new landing strip on a hill, and said, “I’d have to land at this spot for a while.? As I looked at this new landing strip, I wasn’t for sure how or if I could do this. But the more I thought about it, the more I could see it was possible.
When I went home, I asked my dad if it was possible? Right away he said, “no.? in fact, he even asked me, “are you crazy?? I talked with a few other people I knew who could fly, and they all said, “no.? But for whatever reason I can see myself doing it. When I flew to Mexico on my next trip, I landed without any trouble whatsoever. And I continue landing at the spot for a very long time.
When I told my father, how I did it, I could see in his eyes he was surprised at first. Then he said, “I can see how you did it? You see, even though he was the one who taught me how to fly, he had it in his mind it was impossible. But once I actually did it, then, for the first time he visualize, it was possible and accepted it. In today’s time, with all the things that every human being can see, with every invention that’s been created in just the last, hundred years, I would assume that everyone would finally understand that the only limitations are the ones we allow in our own minds. Without a doubt life is whatever you want it to be. As the great Henry Ford said, “whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, either way, you’re right.?
